They are loyal and will protect their family, tend to be wary of strangers. In addition to herding work, these dogs are good at dog sports such as flying disc competitions, agility, canicross, rally and others.
Excellent abilities and character
Australian cattle dogs are very easy to train and get along well with children, but they need early and consistent socialization to help them get along with other dogs. Dogs need a lot of mental and physical activity to be happy and healthy, as well as to prevent destructive behavior. If you have plenty of space at home for your dogs to run around, and you have an active lifestyle that allows you to involve your dog, the Australian cattle dog may be the breed for you.
Health and care
The average lifespan of Australian cattle dog is 12 – 15 years. Dogs have a short coat with a thick undercoat that protects them from the weather. They require minimal care and should be washed only when necessary (dirty, stuffy). The breed does not have the typical dog smell. The change of coat will be very noticeable even in smaller rooms, so you should not forget about brushing.
